mind on shuffle

I can be really random at times, my brother calls me "an American Chinese buffet: a spread of general chao's chicken, pizza, sushi and french fries" but I like to just say my mind is on shuffle.

Traveling is good for the soul. It’s an exit from the everyday normality of life that allows you to take a step back and see the big picture of your life.

“So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more dangerous to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.”

Trying to control my dream…

My Malaysian buddy Jeremy and I went to the theatre last night to watch Inception. No movie has ever captured me, made me react and kept me involved like it. It had this great balance of complicity talking about something as complex as the dream world. Im not going to ruin it for you but part of the plot of the movie is taking control and living in your dreams.

So after watching the movie it took me about 2 hours to digest everything that I watched. And I was so excited to go to sleep because I wanted to see what I could control while dreaming. And this is what I can remember of my dream from last night.

I was in a tiny country town of England. I was with my brother, some friends but couldn’t see their faces but I knew they were friends, and some 18th century special ops guys. The guns they had were these specially modified muskets that could be used as a periscope and shoot around corners. We were in this house that was bombed on and falling apart. We could hear the zombies coming for us from behind but I couldn’t look because there was no window, just a plain wall. Also there was something really big coming. And then the special ops guys busted out their periscope muskets to have a look around the wall and said, “They’re coming, we need to go!”

So we just booked it, running for our lives. I went up a hill to the left that had a single tree resting on top. After making it to the tree I look back to see the zombies had some kind of gigantic iron machine that could walk and was smashing the ground with huge claw like hands. It was such a crude piece of equipment, almost like a steam train that was reengineered to be a walking-smashing machine of terror.

The whole time all this was going on I was trying to control it, I subconsciously knew what was going on. What I mean was, in the dream, I was full on dreaming but remembered what I wanted to do before going to bed, trying to control and alter the dream to what I want it to do. But it didn’t work, we are all running for our lives and I can continually hear all the workings of this giant machine smashing towards me with all of these out of focus zombies in the horizon. It was so intense and during the highest intensity of it my alarm went off. I woke up, used the bathroom and was thinking, “Man this is really intense.” Like I was watching a movie or playing a game and paused it. So I told myself I gotta get back.

When I went back to sleep we had arrived into this hospital, we are still in the old country town in England. The hospital was such an antique, the paint was a faded and cracked yellow color. So, here is where I start to forget, we started to refocus and organize our strategy against these zombies. I couldn’t here the machine anymore but they were coming, we just knew it. We were loading up with all these awesome guns, pistols, carbines, knives, grenade launchers, it was great.

And thats all I can remember… it frustrates me that i cant remember more.

So I woke up and was so entertained, I had a blast dreaming this because, like I said before, I had an idea of what I was doing. Almost like my dream was a wild horse and I was on top with no bridle in for a crazy ride. I cant wait to go to bed tonight!
